Nachdem wir jetzt bereits einige Zeit in Santiago und Umgebung verbracht hatten, lockte uns die Wettervorhersage Richtung Süden – genauer gesagt nach Malalcahuello zum Corralco Gebirge.
Mit einem bequemen Nachtbus erreichten wir in den frühen Morgenstunden das kleine verschlafene Städtchen und wurden sogleich vom Hostal-Chef Joaquim freudig empfangen. Weil es am Berg anstatt des erhofften Schneefalls regnete, machten wir es uns im Hostal vor dem Kamin gemütlich und schwätzten mit Pierce (Skibum aus den USA – „Gringo“), Joaquim und Nico (arbeiten im Hostal - beide ebenfalls begeisterte Snowboarder aus Chile) über das weiße Gold.
Da der Regen für die folgenden 3 Tage unser unerwünschter hartnäckiger Begleiter war, praktizierten wir kreative Antilangeweile Alternativprogramme – wie zum Beispiel: Ausflug zum Prinzessinnen-Wasserfall (kein Scherz- heißt tatsächlich so: „Salto de la princesa“ im Conguillio Nationalpark); Rotwein trinken; durch den zweitlängsten Tunnel Südamerikas zum Eis essen nach Lonquimay fahren; interkulturelle Verständigung mit Eiernockerl (inklusive der unfreiwilligen Showeinlage: brennende Pfanne), Schokobananen und chilenischem Barbecue („Asado“ – die Chilenen verstehen es zu grillen!); witzige Stunden mit dem chilenischem Würfelspiel „Perudo“ (bei diesem Spiel wird viel gelogen) und noch mehr Rotwein trinken *hicks*…
Das Wetter kann man sich nicht schöntrinken? Von wegen! Am vierten Tag hatte es die Nacht zuvor geschneit und die Sonne lächelte uns endlich entgegen. Zusammen mit Nina (deutsche Wahl-Innsbruckerin) ging es auf den Berg zum Schneeprofil graben, Tourengehen und durch den Pawdeeeerrrr fetzen (höhö). Man fühlt sich im Corralco Gebirge so, als würde man auf einer Eistüte mit unzähligen Kugeln Eiscreme Skifahren. Ein wunderschönes Panorama und vor allem wenige Wintersportler machten diesen Tag umso feiner!
Da jedoch für die Skigebiete um Santiago am darauf folgenden Tag sagenhafte 70cm (in Wahrheit waren es um die 30-40cm – auch supi!) Neuschnee prognostiziert wurden, fuhren wir kurzentschlossen am selben Abend mit dem Nachtbus wieder nach Norden.

After we spent some time around Santiago, our curiosity and the weather forecast made us decide to go south to Malalcahuello, Corralco Mountains to be exact.
We took a comfy nightbus and arrived in the early hours in the little village and were immediatley greeted by Joaquim the friendly Hostal-Manager. Sadly we were told that instead of the anticipated snowfall it was actually raining – so we made ourselves comfortable in front of the fireplace and shared stories about the white gold with Pierce (Skibum from the USA – „Gringo“), Joaquim and Nico (both passionate Snoboarders from Chile).
For the following 3 days the rain remained our unwanted persistent companion, so we started our anti-boredom alternativ programm like for example: a trip to the princess waterfall (not kidding – it’s „Salto de la princesa“ in the Conguillo national park); drinking red wine; driving through the second longest tunnel of South America to eat ice cream in Lonquimay; intercultural understanding through „Eiernockerl“ (including the involuntary showstunt: burning pan *Eiernockerl is a delicious Austrian dish made with lots of eggs), chocolate bananas and chilean barbecue („Asado“ it’s the best!), entertaining hours playing the chilean dice game called „Perudo“ (lying is part of the game) and drinking more red wine *hick*….
Beer goggles aren’t helping with the weather? Oh no – they do! On the fourth day (it even snowed the day before) we were finally greeted by our long lost friend – the sun. Together with Nina (german girl living in Innsbruck and also studying at the moment in Chile) we went up to the mountain for digging a snow profile, touring and ripping through the pawderrrr (*muahaha*). It felt like skiing on top of an ice-cream cone – a great panorama and hardly anyone off piste made this day unforgettable.
Due to the amazing snowforecast for the Santiago area for the following day with unbelievable 70cm of snow (we later found out it was more like 30-40 cm – still great!) we quickly decided to head back North and check it out.
